Healing Beyond Diet and Beauty Culture

Therapy for body image & appearance anxiety

Reclaim your life beyond the mirror.

Maybe you remember sitting in class, catching whispers, the quiet laughter that made your stomach drop. You just knew they were talking about you. About your body. About something they decided was "wrong." Maybe it was late nights poring over magazines, tracing the airbrushed lines of flawless skin, wishing yours looked the same.

Now, it's scrolling through social media, where every post feels like a reminder that you’re not enough, unless you tweak, filter, and edit yourself into something more “acceptable.”

You’ve spent years chasing diets, workouts, and fixes that promised confidence but left you feeling worse. You just want to stop. To finally feel at home in yourself. To live your life without the constant weight of self-doubt.

Reclaim your life beyond the mirror.

You feel the pressure to look perfect. To be effortless, yet flawless.

It’s in the mirror, in photos, in the way your body feels when you step into a room. You second-guess what you see, wondering if others see the same flaws you do. You compare, adjust, shrink yourself, always chasing a version of beauty that never feels quite within reach.

You’re exhausted by the mental math of social media filters, food, exercise, angles, and approval. You want to feel at home in yourself, not at war with your reflection.

If you're ready to untangle yourself from beauty and diet culture, to quiet the noise of perfectionism and self-criticism, and to move toward a relationship with your body that is rooted in trust rather than control, you're in the right place.

Let’s step out of the cycle, together. Finally feel good in your body.

I’m the therapist for you if:

  • You replay moments in your head, wondering if people noticed the way your skin looked, the way your body moved, or if you looked “good enough.”

  • You catch your reflection constantly: checking, analyzing, adjusting, yet never feeling satisfied.

  • You feel a wave of shame when you see a photo of yourself, or avoid them altogether.

  • You find yourself spiraling over wrinkles, acne, weight fluctuations, or other perceived “flaws,” feeling like they define your worth.

  • Your relationship with food, exercise, or self-care feels like punishment rather than nourishment.

  • You just want to feel normal in your body, to exist without obsessing over how you look.

You’re not shallow for feeling this way. You’re not vain. You’re responding to a world that taught you your value is in your appearance. But you don’t have to stay stuck here.

What If Things Could Be Different?

What if your days weren’t shaped by how you feel about your appearance?
What if you could take a photo without picking yourself apart?
What if food, movement, and self-care were about feeling good, not earning your worth?
What if the mirror lost its power over you?

It’s possible to step out of the cycle.
Not by forcing yourself to “love” your appearance, but by unlearning the beliefs that keep you stuck. By shifting the focus from how you look to how you feel. By reconnecting with yourself beyond beauty standards and external validation.

Therapy can help you rebuild this relationship, one rooted in trust, self-acceptance, and being rather than performing.

  • Sessions are either held in person at my office, located at 478 10th Ave, Hanover, Ontario or virtually. All virtual sessions are either through a secure HIPAA compliant online platform or by telephone.

  • Typically, in the beginning, meeting weekly is optimal. Every other week can also be effective for some, especially if there are schedule or practical constraints. Your commitment to regular sessions greatly enhances your path to healing. As your healing journey progresses, we can begin to space sessions further apart.

  • Fit is so important. To see if we feel like a match, I provide a complimentary 20 minute consultation call. This allows for us to connect, and go over any questions you might have.

  • Many insurance plans cover the cost associated with seeing a Registered Psychotherapist. Definitely check with your insurance provider to see if this is something they might cover.

If your plan covers psychotherapy, you will likely need to submit a receipt for reimbursement. I do not offer direct billing. However, once I receive payment, I will send you a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider.

  • I accept e-transfer, credit card, visa and interact debit card from majority of banks. Payment is to be received immediately following our session together.
